  • European Doctorate in Chemistry from Universidad de Oviedo.
  •  Has at the present time managed four research projects awarded on a competitive basis, one of them granted by the New York based non-profit foundation  “The Glaucoma Foundation”:
    • Research Project: “Glaucoma Biomarkers for Early Detection”. Program: IDEPA, FEDER and Gobierno del Principado de Asturias. Timeframe: 11/2015 – 12/2016. Ref # PID-1-II-15-020.
    • Research Project “Validation of pseudo-exfoliation glaucoma biomarkers by MRM”. Program: The Glaucoma Foundation, NY. EE.UU. Timeframe: 8/2014 – 8/2015.
    • Research Project: “The Zinc-Metallothioneine redox cycle as a therapeutic target in Age Related Macular Degeneration (AMD) treatment”. Program: Plan de Ciencia Tecnología e Innovación de Asturias, FEDER y FICYT. Timeframe: 7/2014 – 12/2015. Ref# IE14-030.
    • Research Project: “Early diagnosis of glaucoma: application of new technologies to the determination of serum biomarkers”. Program: Plan de Ciencia Tecnología e Innovación de Asturias, FEDER y FICYT. Timeframe: 7/2013 – 12/2014. Ref# IE13-031.
  • Has published over 20 scientific articles, taking part in numerous international conventions, is also co-author of a patent.
  • Delegate for the European Action COST TD1304, “The network for the biology of zinc”, Leader of the Work Group, “Industrial Liaison”, and member of Sociedad Española de Glaucoma.
